Of course, there are the usual things like lose some weight, be healthier, curb my spending habits blah blah blah. But I think I might actually achieve these goals because I want to do them. Not because I think I should.
Here is my list;
- Learn to play golf - Cute outfits, A good workout, Possible good looking men, And a drink after with your fellow golfers... It all sounds good to me!!!
- Travel Europe (part 1) - This is happening in Sept & Oct of this year on my Contiki tour
- Learn to cook - Especially Thai or Indian food.
- Read the occasional classic novel - Can anyone recommend any good ones?
- Take part in a Conservation Weekend away - I saw a segment on Sydney Weekender about Montague Island and it sounds like it'd be a refreshing and rewarding experience
These two may have to wait until 2008;
- Do a Cocktail making or Wine tasting course - For obvious reasons!
- Go to the Great Barrier Reef- I think most Australians forget there are some amazing holiday destinations in their own backyard.
I'll b sure to keep you all updated on how my progress is going.

Ahh, I love goals!
And I love golf.
Seriously, it's one of the most fun games to play. The rules the clubs, the whacking of the balls...
It just screams this girl is has sexual tension.
goals are GREAT!
Life tends to stall when you don't have any or don't feel you are making progress (just read Wanders Blog..she sometimes feels like that)
ANYWAY.... I have a week in Paris, a week in Spain and a week in England.. so I am pleased with that goal.. :o)
Golf will be the hardest, most rewarding thing, that you learn to do...
I love playing, and women out golfing do turn a lot of heads (let's face it, the majority of players on the course on any given day are dudes)...
Classical Novels are not an easy read because the language and style are so different from our own - they take concentration. You could start with Lady Chatterley's Lover by D.H.Lawrence. The language is close to ours. The big shock this book caused was the idea that a middle to upper class 'lady' would have an affair with one of the servants. Common place nowadays, but big for its time. And there's sex ;-)
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is hard to read as well, it's difficult to describe why but trust me it is well worth it. You see how, step by step, the boys lose their control over themselves, it's fascinating and frightening at the same time.
If reading a full classic novel is hard then I recommend picking up Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The cool thing about these is that each adventure was written for a column in a newspaper or magazine, so they are a nice quick read. And you can try and solve the crime yourself too!
If you watched and liked the BBC series of Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice then give it a go, but if you're not into the language it may help to have the DVD on the tv nearby, to help out.
And my last idea is Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray. Like Great Expectations this novel was written for subscribers to a magazine - a chapter an issue. So although the book is very thick, it is easy to read a chapter and leave it a bit before you tackle the next. I haven't seen the movie with Reece Witherspoon but I want to, the book was full of intrigue and seduction - Eighteenth Century Styles!
Hope this gives you somewhere to start.
(Sorry, don't play golf - it drives me nuts!)
JLS
(ahem), sorry.
*I* don't play golf.
I didn't mean to suggest you shouldn't... :-)
What are the obvious reasons around the cocktail making or wine tasting course? :)
I want to read more classic books too (you saw my list a couple days ago - lots to choose from)
Best do the Barrier Reef sooner rather than later, theres speculation its dieing off...
I love Sydney Weekender, its on at such a crappy time. I'm either coming back form the gym or having a cat nap. Wish there would be a rerun on a Monday night or so - I enjoy it more than Great Out Doors and Getaway only because theres a bigger chance of me going to these places - I've added many to my 'to do list' Hmmm. haven't looked at it of late.
Great goals! I definitely encourage you to learn how to cook. It's fun and therapeutic, plus you can sample your yummy dishes. :)
Eileen: So your saying I might pick up a nice rich golfer man??? (pft I can wish right)
Simon: I agree - if you aren't aiming for anything life just gets broing. And, um, way to make me jealous. hehe
Stormin Mormon: Golf will def be hard - but I'm sure some of the many men playing will be able to help. haha
Ju: Thanks so much for the list. I'll have to search Ebay for some of those. I just really hate not knowing what someone is talking about when they refer to an all time classic novel
Single Guy: Well...I like to drink them - so why not know how to make and identify them. Ok really I just want a reason to drink more =)
Miss Natalie: Yes I saw your list - thats what made me realise I have NO idea. And your right about Syd Weekender - I only ever get to watch it on the off chance - but it always has great resturants and local things to do in Sydney.
A Novelist: In that case I should also add something about increasing my workouts. But I would love to be able to cook a decent meal for people.
Del...
I'm sure that some of the gentlemen at the course will have no qualms in instructing a lady on the proper form with which to play with her clubs and balls... ;-)
I have a delicious thai recipe that could help you start your goal...Ill post it on my blog this afternoon.
Wiscoblond: Ohh thanks I can't wait to see it!!! I'll let you know how I go with it =)
